SVP is a biannual volunteering program for students of matric/intermediate and O/A levels. Initiated in 2012, this program aims to inspire a spirit of community service in the youth of Karachi. This is a 4 day event where students visit Civil Hospital and are given an opportunity to see first-hand the facilities which are offered to the patients at one of the busiest tertiary care public hospitals of Karachi. A variety of activities are organised with the objective of increasing the students’ confidence in dealing with patients, honing their communication skills as well as equipping them with basic knowledge about common diseases. These include interacting with patients admitted in wards; counselling people in the out-patient department about transmission and prevention of diseases; learning about first aid; spending some quality time with the little patients in paediatrics ward, to name a few. The program also doubles as a fundraiser for SOCH as students are given donation books to get filled from family and friends. The amount collected is then invested in projects for the renovation of CHK.
